We are quickly drawing near the end of school. Next week is full of many exciting things for the students. There are some important details for you to be aware of.
Final report cards will be mailed to students by the end of next week. However, each student needs to provide an envelope like the one below for their report card. They can either bring the self-addressed stamped envelope from home, or they can buy an envelope at school for $2.00 which includes the postage. If your student doesn't provide an envelope, you will need to come to the school during summer hours to pick-up his/her report card and attachments. Thank you in advance for your support.
Summer is almost upon us and Lost Mountain is excited to be participating in the all-new Cobb County School District Summer Reading Program for 2018. This program is completely optional, but we hope that our students will join the challenge and work towards reading 1,500 minutes (that works out to 20 minutes a day) this summer. This year we will utilize a platform students already use and are familiar with: Biblionasium. More details on the program can be found on the Learning Commons Summer Reading page.
Homeroom: Dance Team Practice - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings in my room 8:15
Your child received his/her Spring Portraits. There are specific directions with ordering information on the package. LMMS receives 50% of any pictures purchased. You may purchase the pictures by sending in payment in the included envelope OR you may go online at www.strawbridge.net There are other portrait sheet combinations online. If you DO NOT want any of the pictures, please return the entire package to the front office. Also, return any unpurchased pictures to LMMS in the original package. The deadline is Friday, April 20.
In sixth grade, students are allowed to use a calculator for the majority of the EOG Milestones math section. From the state FAQ, “For the grade 6 assessment, students will be allowed to use a basic four function calculator, which only performs addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.” Memory Keys, j% and square root keys are allowed, but SCIENTIFIC CALCULATORS ARE NOT ALLOWED. If your student has a calculator that meets this criteria, we would love for them to bring it in to assure we have enough calculators for the entire sixth grade. The calculator would need to have the students name and homeroom written on it and be brought in this week. Thank you in advance for your help.
Team 6B
New Grading Policy 4th Quarter Due to excessive zeroes and assignments being turned in late, Team 6B will be implementing a new grading policy for the final quarter of this school year. If a student has a zero for an assignment, they must turn it in within 3 days of the due date, or it will remain a zero. Teachers will no longer assign working lunches except in the case of students who have not completed a test or quiz. As an added incentive, twice during the fourth quarter teachers we will offer students who have turned in everything “recess” time during part of 5th period. The second “recess” will be for students who have no zeroes from the progress report to the end of the quarter recess date. On recess days, students who have a zero will be working on an assignment that will have the greatest impact on their grade in a class that they must pass to move on to 7th grade. *However, this does not supersede the NO LATE Homework policy stated in Pellegrino’s Social Studies and Hanse’s Reading syllabus at the beginning of the year. Don't forget we are almost finished with Unit 3. We will begin Unit 4 Flush by Carl Hiaasen immediately after that. We will begin with background information, so you will need your book by no later than Monday, March 26.
